GDMK Images Latest Update Is All About Shunters

06002 data plate br blue metal sign

GDMK Images Latest Update Is All About Shunters

Our latest loco data panel update is all about shunters – those humble and often overlooked locos that were once seen in almost every siding and depot throughout the UK.

Which Shunter Loco Data Panels Are Available?

We have added most shunter classes along with some of the common livery variations –

All of the shunter data panels are available in BR Blue and Br Green. The Class 08 and Class 09 data panels are available in several more colour schemes.

[ux_products columns=”3″ auto_slide=”5000″ equalize_box=”true” ids=”68738,68739,68741,68740,68742″]

Class 03 Shunters

The tiny Class 03 shunters could be found mainly on the Eastern Region of British Rail. They were so small and light they were often seen with a small match wagon to help ensure they activated the track circuits. Nothing quite as unsettling for a signaller to see than a shunter disappear from his panel!

Class 06 Shunters

The Class 06 shunters could be found mainly in Scotland and only consisted of around a dozen locos.

Class 08 Shunters

The Class 08 could be seen everywhere in the UK with over 900 being built. Almost every siding and depot in the UK would have at least one 08 shunter lurking somewhere. In the initial release of data panels you can get the following livery versions –

  • BR Blue
  • EWS
  • Railfreight Triple Grey Without Sector Markings

There were some really cool depot colour scheme variations and special colour schemes. These will be added as part of our ‘Special Edition’ data panel range which will be launched in the next few weeks.

Class 09 Shunters

The Class 09 shunters were predominantly found on the Southern Region of the UK. They were fitted with waist height brake fittings to make it safer for guards to couple up the trains in 3rd rail electrified areas. Once privatisation took hold the 09s spread their wings and could be found all over the UK.

Class 13 Shunters

There were only 3 Class 13 shunters which were purposely built to work the hump yard at Tinsley. The class 13 was essentially a pair of Class 08s coupled together with the cab being removed from the front loco.

** Flash Sales **

Our flash sales on Facebook, Instagram and our email newsletters have been going down a storm and this weeks features data panels at knock down prices so check our social media to grab a bargain!

1st to claim an item gets it – simple as that!

GDMK Images – Covid 19 Latest

Covid 19 Update – 29/04/2020

Online Orders Now Being Processed Again

Hi everyone, first things first, I hope you and your loved ones are doing ok in these testing times.

As the Covid 19 situation has evolved, I just wanted you to be aware of what we are up to and how it affects your orders.
As of today, we will be resuming full online order fulfilment. All outstanding orders are being processed and will be despatched in the next 4 or 5 days.

What’s In This Update?

There is a lot going on so here is a summary of what you can learn in this update

  • GDMK Images 2020 Show Season
  • New Flash Sales
  • Loco Data Panel Designs Revised and Updated
  • More Classic Military Aircraft Embroidered Designs
  • New Classic Military Vehicle Embroidered Clothing Range
  • Lots of New Pictures Added
  • Big Editorial Stock Image Update
  • 8th Stitch Creations

2020 Show Season

With the social distancing requirements looking like they may well extend into the summer, I am not sure when we will be resuming attendance at events around the country. There is an underlying health issue in the family which requires careful managing in relation to Covid 19, which adds to the considerations of resuming attendance at public events.

For the foreseeable future, we will remain online only.

This is a real shame as we have some fantastic new ranges to launch, several of which haven’t been seen before on the enthusiast circuit. We were very much looking forward to taking these new products out on the road this year!

Details of the new products will be revealed over the coming weeks and will be available online.

So What Else is New From GDMK Images?

The enforced lockdown has been challenging as I am sure it has been for you guys n gals as well.

The time has been well used by undertaking some necessary, and tedious, website maintenance.

I have spent a lot of time creating new designs and developing product ideas which will be launched over the coming weeks. There is an awful lot for all you railway, aviation and military vehicle enthusiasts to look forward to!!

In addition to this, I have taken been going over customer reviews and feedback and been refining and improving some of our designs.

** Flash Sales **

Keep an eye out for our flash sales on Facebook, Instagram and our email newsletters.

A couple of times a week I will be grabbing some random items of stock we made up for the ‘not now happening’ show season and putting them up for grabs at knockdown prices!!

Each flash sale will include one railway and one aviation item up for grabs at a great price. Sometimes each social channel will feature different items so each sale gives you a choice of several items!

1st to claim an item gets it – simple as that!

Loco Data Panel Designs Fine Tuned

Our loco data panel designs have been updated. The first big change is that I have been guided by feedback and discontinued the square 200mm x 200mm sizes. All designs are now 290mm x 200mm with a much requested larger size of 400mm x 305mm added to the range. Most locomotive livery designs have had slight tweaks and improvements.

More classes will be added now that the most popular loco classes are available online.

I will be starting a new series of limited edition loco specific data plates. These will feature some of the unique loco colour schemes and depot special variations that have graced the railways over the years.

More Classic Military Aircraft Clothing Designs

I have been very busy designing new aircraft for the extremely popular Classic Military Aircraft clothing range.

Again, following feedback and suggestions, we have a great range of new aircraft ready to take off and join our clothing range!

Just a few of the famous aircraft coming soon include –

Theres loads more classic military aircraft coming as well …. !!

New Classic Military Vehicle Clothing Range

One of our most exciting developments for this year, was to have been the launch of our Classic Military Vehicle clothing range at Wicksteed at War in June.

Events have overtaken us, so for now, the release will be online only!

We have had a huge amount of requests for a military vehicle range of clothing. Your call has been answered and we will be launching sometime soon, a Classic Military Vehicle range starting with some classic favourites including –

  • Willys Jeep
  • GMC Deuce and a Half
  • Dodge WC-54 Ambulance
  • Sherman Tank

There will be a load more classic military vehicles added as the year progresses!

These military vehicle embroidered designs will be available on the full range of clothing as per our other embroidered designs!

New Pictures For Gift Products

One of the benefits of the lockdown has been having time to go over my photo archive and select new images to be processed. These will see the light of day on everything from wall art through to coasters, with the original intention having been a whole new library of images for this years show season.

These new images will slowly be added to the website as products over the coming weeks.

GDMK Images Editorial Portfolio Updated on Alamy

I have also done a long overdue refresh on my Alamy editorial stock portfolio.

This has involved a big review and overhaul of keywords and captions to make searching easier for image buyers.

I have also added a huge number of new images covering pretty much every genre including –

  • railways
  • aircraft and aviation themes
  • everday scenes
  • construction industry
  • night and low light scenes
  • abstract and concept themed ideas

8th Stitch Creations

Those who have met us on the stall will know my wife Dawn.

Having got bored with too many trains and planes, she has taken the plunge and set up her own business called 8th Stitch Creations to make things more akin to her interests.

She will still be the backbone of all our in house embroidery, so don’t panic!

8th Stitch Creations allows her creative freedom to make things close to her heart including a very exciting fundraising project for the NHS!!

She is also specialising in unique memory and keepsake products such as memory blankets and so on.

You can find 8th Stitch creations on Facebook so please check out her page and see what she gets up to!!

Thats All For Now – Stay Safe Everyone

There is so much more I could go on about, but I think that’s enough for now!

Please stay safe everyone and I look forward to seeing you again at a show somewhere once this all blows over.

In the meantime, I will do my best to keep you entertained and supplied in railway, aviation and military vehicle goodies!!

All the best for now and stay safe!!!

GDMK Images Railway Trip to Newcastle and Carlisle

2 LNER class 43 hst trains at Newxastle

GDMK Images Railway Trip to Newcastle and Carlisle

Pleasure Mixed With A Little Business

We recently had a rare full weekend off. Big Country were playing in Newcastle as part of their 35th Anniversary Steeltown album tour so we decided to take a train trip up to Newcastle via the East Coast Main Line (ECML) to see them play. We have received a lot of requests this year asking for stuff featuring modern railways. It seemed a perfect opportunity to use the trip to get some up to date images for adding to the picture library. My railway roots are deep in classic 1980s diesel locos. Once the classic loco classes disappeared, I stopped taking photos of the railway scene. I regret this to a certain degree as there is now a gap in my railway picture library as I moved more into aviation photography. As per some of my discussions on Twitter, today’s railway scene is still worthy of recording. Today’s railway scene will one day be historic and therefore needs recording, despite my lesser interest in the multiple unit nature of today’s rolling stock. As with all things modern, it seems sanitised and characterless when compared to the railway scene I remember. This is where it gets scary, as I sound just like the old steam guys did when diesels came along!!

Not Many Peaks at Sheffield!

The outbound trip needed changes at Sheffield and Doncaster, so I hoped there would be plenty of opportunities to get pictures. The first change of train was required at Sheffield, a station I haven’t visited by train since about 1989!! Sheffield was always synonymous with the Class 45 Peaks to me. On this day, Northern dominated the train services with plenty of Class 144, Class 156 and Class 158 units running around with a Crosscountry Trains Class 43 HST thrown in for good measure.

Doncaster Deltic Reminder

Doncaster has always been a haven for railway enthusiasts and photographers. Classic loco types such as the A1 and A4 Pacifics, the much-revered Class 55 Deltics and today’s Class 43 HSTs and Class 91 electrics have strutted their stuff up and down the East Coast Main Line. The briefest of stops at Doncaster only allowed me to quickly get a few shots of Network Rails Class 43 HST New Measurement Train. A Northern Class 170 was present as well. Our train to Newcastle teased me with old memories of Doncaster as it was named Deltic 50 in honour of the 50th anniversary of the cult Class 55 diesel locos.

Newcastle Arrival

Upon arrival at Newcastle, I was struck by the memory that, in all the years I have been travelling around on the railways, I had only ever been to Newcastle one other time in daylight. Every other visit had been as part of some mad overnight trip a very long time ago!

The Main Event – Big Country

I have been a big fan of Big Country for a long, long time. I first saw them live 35 years ago on the original Steeltown album tour and still can’t quite comprehend that the 35th Anniversary Steeltown Tour has started !! Anyway, long story short, great band and top notch performance!!

Tyne Valley Diversion to Carlisle

I hadn’t realised the ECML Tyne Valley diversions were on, so on Sunday a jaunt across the country to Carlisle was in order courtesy of another LNER Class 43 HST. We would then take a trek up the WCML and cut across country to get us back home via Crewe and Derby. The Tyne Valley is a great little trip that you should take if you ever get the chance. The line serves Bardon Mill which is a great place to bail and go to see Vindolanda Vindolanda is the location of a Roman Fort and Village that was occupied for nearly 300 years and is an awesome day out. If you like your Roman history then definitely check it out – it’s a massive site heaving with archaeological treasure!

Carlisle – Nearly Bowled By A Voyager

Carlisle presented a few more photo opportunities including a Scotrail Class 156, Transpennine Express Class 350, Northern Class 158 and a Virgin Class 390 Pendolino. The idea of trekking up the WCML to Crewe soon evaporated when realising the service was formed of a Voyager. I was not going to ruin a good weekend with a trip on a Voyager, so it seemed a trip back across the Tyne Valley on another LNER HST was the only sensible thing to do!!

York – Any Chance of A Class 68?

We decided to take the LNER service through to York where I hoped to get a photo of a TransPennine Express Class 68. Good old TPE! In the bay platform was Class 68 68032 Destroyer – a powerful name if there ever was one! York provided a few more different types for my photo collection including a Northern Class 142, Class 150 and Class 170. We also had the bonus of getting a Class 91 down to Doncaster in the form of 91109 Sir Bobby Robson.

Sheffield Again!

A quick hop down to Doncaster on Class 91 91109 and a lightning change of trains saw us back at Sheffield again. This time there was evidence of the rebranding of East Midlands Trains on both the Class 158 and Class 43 HSTs that were present. In the Class 158 picture, one unit is original East Midlands Trains and the second is EMR Regional. With the HST power cars, one was de-branded and the other had a large EMR logo. Times are a-changing on the Midland Main Line!

Trip Over – Mission Accomplished

All in all, it was a great weekend. It doesn’t get much better than catching a stunning performance from Big Country, sampling some classic Class 43 and Class 91 miles and the bonus of getting a load of new material in the bag.  We also bagged a bit of Deltic action on the way up – well sort of !! Anyway, thanks for reading and keep your eye out on the run-up to Christmas for the much requested modern era gifts! All the best

New Products

Our new personalised railway gifts, especially the replica loco panels, have gone down an absolute storm as have our D-Day 75 Commemorative gifts. Thanks for the great feedback on these products!

Bumps in the Road

We have been quiet recently following a health scare for our embroidery partner. All is well now, but it had a knock on effect to orders, so apologies if any of you have been affected. As a result we have decided to invest in a second embroidery machine which will allow us to increase our capacity whilst our partner can take it a bit easier. Our new embroidered railway and aviation designs were well recieved at recent shows but we havent been able to get them online. I am intending to add them this week! We have had a couple of weeks off the show circuit whilst we get on top of everything, especially getting to grips with the new embroidery software.

Upcoming Shows

We will be out again for the Armed Forces Day in Mansfield on 30th June so if you are in the area drop by and say hi! The following weeks looks like this
  • Flying Legends
  • DRS Carlisle Open Day
  • Marham Families Day
  • East Kirkby Airshow
  • Military Odyssey
If you are planning to visit any of these shows come and say hello!

Society and Fund Raising

We have been busy with supplying various Societies with merchandise for their fund raising stalls and are delighted to have added several new societies. We are extremely pleased to have been asked to supply the BBMF, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, with printed and embroidered merchandise. The Western Loco Association, Woodhead Railway Group and 466th Bomb Group at Attlebridge have also kindly ordered various fund raising items. There is also an interesting job involving 50008 in development! Our regulars including the Network Southeast Society, Southern Electric Group, Class 37 Loco Group, Lincolnshire Lancaster Association, The Spitfire Society and the Class 45/1 Society have been busy filling their stalls with our products so if you see these groups out and about, make sure you drop by and buy something to help them raise much needed funds!

Alamy Editorial Portfolio

Time has been precious this last few months and unfortunately I havent added any new editorial images to my Alamy Portfolio, but nevertheless licences have been good. If you need editorial pictures for your publication then check out my Alamy portfolio – there is a wide range of image subject matter and styles as can be seen below. These images have recently been generating enquiries and licences. This brings you pretty much up to date on where we are at the moment. We would like to thank you all very much for your support over the last few months. We are very much looking forward to getting back on the road again, starting with a home town event in the shape of Mansfields Armed Forces Day on 30th June. If we dont see you there, hopefully we will see you at another event this summer! Thanks for reading and all the best Gary, Dawn & Kay

Fund Raising Raffle for Class 50 50026 Indomitable

To coincide with the Severn Valley Railway Class 50 Golden Jubilee Gala, we are running a raffle to raise funds for Class 50 50026 Indomitable.

In light of the circumstances last Saturday, where the start-up following engine repairs didnt quite go to plan, this fund raising takes on an even more pressing importance. The original plan was to run the raffle from the stall during the event, but in light of the sad news of 50026s withdrawal from the event, we wanted to start now and increase the visibility of the raffle.

Tickets are available online now and from the stall at Bewdley station throughout the gala until 3.30pm on Saturday. The draw will be made at 4pm on Saturday 6th October.

Raffle Prizes

We have some great prizes up for grabs as follows –

1st Prize – A signed limited edition print of 50026 in Large Logo livery and current Revised NSE livery
2nd Prize – A piston from the power unit in 50026 (IH6937)
3rd Prize – A signed limited edition print showing the evolution of 50026 from D426 in BR Blue in the various liveries carried above a full picture of 50026 in current livery
4th prize – A big end shell from 50026s power unit
5th prize – limited edition ’50s at 50′ t-shirt

* prints signed by Paul, Darryl, Lee & Midi

Tickets are priced at £2 each and you can buy as many as you want.

Your raffle numbers will be emailed to you following checkout.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/3″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″ css=”.vc_custom_1538341037243{background-color: #0098da !important;background-position: center !important;background-repeat: no-repeat !important;background-size: cover !important;border: 1px solid #00478c !important;border-radius: 5px !important;}”][vc_column_text]

The Rocky Road of Diesel Preservation

Please support 50026 and the team who have literally busted a gut to have her ready for the gala. The difficulties encountered last Saturday are a big reminder of the fickleness of diesel preservation. Despite the great recent success stories of 50044 and 50033, 50026 shows that even with state of the art facilities, a fantastically dedicated and technically sound support team and 100s of man hours of work, things dont always go well.

Dont forget the profits from any product you buy here goes towards 50021 & 50026 so if you dont fancy a bash at the raffle you might find a nice little gift and still help both locos out!

Thanks for reading and hope you buy a few tickets, we look forward to seeing you at Bewdley!

Cheers

Gary & Dawn[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/6″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]
