Design Process

Flexibility with Control

The commissioned art design process is completely flexible. You choose an existing style from a reference picture in my existing galleries or we can discuss a style that appeals to you.

Once a style is chosen I will start work on your digital painting. At various stages I will send you developmental views of how your commissioned artwork is progressing. This allows you to review the digital painting and guide the look of the final artwork.

Once the image is completed you can choose what type of product your picture can be mounted upon.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

How Much Will It Cost?

My hourly artist time rate is extremely competitive and can be discounted if you allow me to add the picture to my portfolio and use it for resale on my site. You always have the right to maintain exclusivity but I retain copyright of all developmental and final images.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Picture Product Options

Your commissioned artwork can be mounted on any of our wall art products including canvas, metal, wood and acrylic. Wood, metal and canvas prints are available up to 72″ x 48″.

Postage is £7.50 for canvas prints and £12.50 for all other products up to 60″ x 40″. A custom quote will be given for anything above 60″.

Payment Arrangements

All payments are handled via Paypal Invoices. I will send you a detailed invoice which you can pay with any card via Paypal. 50021 and 50026 Christmas Fund Raising Raffle

The 50021 and 50026 Christmas Fund Raising Raffle is now open and is the first competition I will be running to raise funds for 50021 and 50026.

First prize is a stunning 20″ x 16″ wooden block print featuring the evolution of the colour schemes carried by 50021 Rodney. This wooden block print features a stunning high gloss finish and is approx 3/4″ thick.  The wooden block is keyed on the back ready for hanging and normally retails for £60 plus P&P.

I had this piece exclusively commissioned for myself but decided it would be apt as a prize to raise funds for 50021’s ETH Generator overhaul.

Second prize is a mobile phone flip case featuring 50021 and Third prize is a mug featuring 50021 as seen on the bottom of the print.

Tickets are priced at £2.50 each and 100% of the sum raised will go to fund the ETH generator overhaul on 50021.

GDMK Images New Production Facilities Means More Gifts For You

We have been extremely busy behind the scenes working on improving our supply chain and production facilities. We are delighted to announce the first stage in our plan is ready to go live.

  • Stage 1 will see industry standard printing facilities come online in temporary new production facilities.
  • Stage 2 will see our new dedicated production facility come onstream that will include the new printing equipment, a studio and workshop facility.

Stage 2 is anticipated to go live at the end of May.

Why Change?

The reasons for GDMK Images investing in these new production facilities are many fold but can be summed up as follows

  • we have been let down by suppliers with delivery and quality issues
  • suppliers going out of business
  • lack of control over product availability
  • short notice changes to product styles

What Will Change?

  • our range of gifts will be increased

Heres a quick look back at the Nene Valley Railway Bulleid 50 Steam Gala that ran a couple of weeks ago over the weekend of 25th and 26th February 2017.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

 Bulleid 50 Steam Gala Background

The Bulleid 50 steam gala was an event run by the Nene Valley Railway to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the end of steam running on the Southern Region of British Railways. Two of Bulleids iconic designs featured in this steam gala –

  • 34081 ’92 Squadron’ (running without nameplates)
  • 34053 Sir Keith Park

34081 92 Squadron

The Bulleid 50 steam gala saw the long anticipated return to service of 34081 92 Squadron following its near 7 year restoration. The skill, dedication and sheer hard work of the Battle of Britain Locomotive society has to be applauded for turning out such a stunning looking machine. 34081 ran without nameplates during the gala reflecting the period after delivery from new when many of the class had yet to be named. 34081 will have the 92 Squadron nameplates refitted during a re-dedication service on 6th May. 34053 Sir Keith Park

34053 Sir Keith Park visited the Gala from the Severn Valley Railway where it resides and is owned and maintained by Southern Locomotives Limited. 34053 Sir Keith Park is always popular and had a long and drawn out restoration following being dumped at the famous Barry Scrapyard. 34053 entered the famous Woodhams scrapyard in 1966 where it resided for 13 years. In 1979 a remarkable journey began that saw the hulk of the loco visit Hull, Crewe, Chippenham, the West Somerset Railway, Portland, and finally the Severn Valley Railway! 34053 Sir Keith Park finally returned to service in 2012 after 47 years and in excess of £770,000 being spent! Train Workings at the Bulleid 50 Steam Gala

Both engines were in use throughout the weekend on trains operating the full length of the Nene Valley Railway. Each loco took turns to haul service trains whilst the other operated brake van rides up to Yarwell and back. The final train of each day was planned to be double headed by both locos but unfortunately on the Saturday 34081 was low on water and did not work the last train.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Other Sights To Be Seen During the Bulleid 50 Steam Gala

BR Standard Class 5 73050

BR Standard Class 5 loco 73050 City of Peterborough was on display on the turntable at Wansford. 73050 has previously been restored to working order and was taken out of service in 2014 for a thorough overhaul.

Working Steam Crane

Many heritage railways have steam cranes lying around their workshop sites. With so much heavy lifting to be done, a capable crane with a heavy lifting capability is a real asset to railways. Whats not seen so often is the crane in actual use. During the Bulleid 50 steam gala, the steam crane at Wansford was in regular use lifting bogies, a saddle tank and other assorted items. Our art stall was very well received at the gala. It was great to meet so many people and customers old and new at the Nene Valley which is becoming a favourite railway of ours!

Long Exposure HDR at New York Grand Central Station

Welcome to part 2 of my posts discussing and sharing photography trips in relation to our Ted on Tour USA road trip.

One technique I have been experimenting with is long exposure HDR. This technique is great for creating abstract effects and accentuating the illusion of movement. Read about how I approach long exposure HDR to create pictures with a wide dynamic range and enhancing a sense of movement in a scene.

Standard HDR photography doesnt usually feature movement. HDR is used primarily to capture a static scene that has a wide dynamic range between the highlights and shadows. Long exposure HDR, as the title implies, is the same concept of capturing a wide dynamic range, but uses long exposures. By the very nature of long exposures, you are going to record any movement of elements in your scene as either a blur or light streak.

Using Ghosting to Your Creative Advantage

Ghosting is caused by the tiny movement between each shot when hand holding a sequence of photos of the same subject. When you overlay these photos on top of each other, ghosting shows up as slight blurring around the edges of your static subject matter. If your camera is mounted on a tripod then ghosting is theoretically eliminated as the camera is steady between shots. Most HDR software allows you to control any ghosting when overlaying multiple pictures. HDR software will try to eliminate any ghosting when combining and processing the individual images into the final output image.

A series of long exposure pictures, particularly with people in the scene, will have plenty of blurred motion with the movement in each image drastically different to the previous. This movement can be used creatively by adjusting the ghosting settings.

I took 5 seperate pictures of New Yorks Grand Central railway station concourse taken with exposures of –

  • 20secs
  • 10secs
  • 5 secs
  • 2.5 secs
  • 1 sec

The images were merged in Photomatix Pro. Both Lightroom and Photoshop have Merge to HDR features but I personally prefer using Photomatix Pro. The ghosting setting was adjusted to give the scene a pleasant overall sensation of the peoples movement. If you try this technique, move the ghosting slider and watch the motion in your images transform itself as the setting changes.

Use of the deghosting setting has a major effect on how the movement is portrayed in the finished HDR picture.

HDR Finishing Touches

I always tend to leave my HDR images for a day or two after the initial converting to a merged image. I do this because I like to come back with a fresh eye. There are so many variations of tone and contrast effects that I feel I become desensitised to the intense colours and contrasts inherent in HDR processing.

The small break allows me to come back with a fresh eye. I think its similar to eating rich food, after a while your taste buds become overwhelmed and the food doesnt taste as nice the more you eat. I definitely feel my visual acuity gets desensitised by the high saturation and contrast of newly merged HDR images.

Below is the completed long exposure HDR.
