What Is The Saab Viggen?
The Saab Viggen is a classic Cold War aircraft that evolved into a an extremely competent all weather multi-role aircraft.
The Viggen was used exclusively by the Swedish Air Force during the Cold War. Despite numerous attempts by the Swedish Government, no export orders were ever generated.
A firm favourite with airshow crowds, the Viggen was also the only aircraft ever officially recognised as getting a radar lock onto the SR-71 Blackbird.
When Was The Viggen in Service?
The first version to enter service was a fighter/bomber version, the AJ 37 Viggen, in 1971. The Viggen design was under constant development and served until 2005.
