Class 37 locos were built by English Electric between 1960 and 1965 as part of the British rail modernisation plan. The class 37s were originally referred to as English Electric Type 3 locos and were fitted with a 12 CSVT 1750hp diesel engine.

Class 37 locos could be found throughout the UK rail network and were very versatile and reliable.

They provided power for many passenger trains in East Anglia and Scotland and were used on almost every type of freight train throughout the UK. Although the Class 37s are over 50 years old they can still be found operating freight trains throughout the UK rail network.
