Class 221

All these gifts can be produced to feature any Class 221 unit.

The Class 221 Super Voyagers are 5 car diesel units similar to the 4 car Class 220 sets.

The Class 221 units were introduced into service in the early 2000s by Virgin Trains to replace the Intercity 125 Class 43 HSTS and Class 47s on Cross Country services.

Although they are deemed to be more reliable than the trains they replaced, they haven’t gained much of an enthusiast following or fondness with the general public.

Much of this is due to the smaller train formation these units provide which led to consistent overcrowding. The unfortunate placing of the air conditioning units close to the toilets, in turn led to an aroma of chemical toilets pervading the trains and the even more unfortunate nickname of ‘Vomiters’!!!!
